Welcome to the setup guide for powering up your Ledger hardware wallet. Follow these steps to get your Ledger device ready for secure cryptocurrency management.
1. Unbox Your Ledger Device
Check Contents: Ensure you have all the components in the box, including:
Ledger hardware wallet
USB cable (for Nano S and Nano X) or wireless charging pad (for Stax)
Recovery seed cards
Quick start guide
2. Connect Your Device
Ledger Nano S:
Connect to Computer: Plug the USB cable into the Ledger Nano S and connect it to your computer.
Ledger Nano X:
Connect via Bluetooth: Power on the Ledger Nano X by pressing the button on the device. For initial setup, connect it to your computer using the USB cable or use Bluetooth to connect to the mobile app.
Ledger Stax:
Charge Your Device: Place your Ledger Stax on the wireless charging pad to power it up. Ensure the charging pad is connected to a power source.
3. Open Ledger Live
Download and Install Ledger Live: If you haven’t already, download and install Ledger Live from Ledger.com/Start®.
Launch Ledger Live: Open the Ledger Live application on your computer or mobile device.
4. Initialize Your Device
Start Setup: In Ledger Live, select “Get Started” and choose your device model.
Follow On-Screen Instructions: The application will guide you through the initialization process, including setting up your device and installing necessary apps.
5. Create and Confirm PIN
Set Up PIN: Follow the instructions on the device to create a secure PIN. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized access.
Confirm PIN: Re-enter the PIN to confirm it.
6. Backup Your Recovery Seed
Write Down Recovery Seed: The device will display a recovery phrase (24 words). Write down these words on the provided recovery seed cards.
Store Safely: Keep your recovery seed in a secure location. This phrase is essential for recovering your wallet if needed.
7. Install Cryptocurrency Apps
Open Ledger Live: Ensure your device is connected to your computer or mobile app.
Install Apps: Use Ledger Live to install the apps for the cryptocurrencies you wish to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
8. Add Cryptocurrency Accounts
Add Accounts: Go to the “Accounts” section in Ledger Live and click “Add account” to set up accounts for the cryptocurrencies you hold.
9. Receive and Send Funds
Receive Funds: Select the cryptocurrency account, click “Receive,” and generate a receiving address. Use this address to receive funds.
Send Funds: To send cryptocurrency, select the account, click “Send,” enter the recipient’s address and the amount, and confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
Firmware Updates: Regularly check for firmware updates for your Ledger device to ensure it has the latest security features.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enable 2FA where possible for additional security on associated accounts.
Backup Your Recovery Seed: Keep your recovery seed safe and do not share it with anyone.
